Children’s Librarian - The
East Hampton Public Library seeks a dynamic, friendly, and
forward-thinking Children’s Librarian who can lead our growing
children’s department. This person will create positive library
experiences by providing reference, reader’s advisory and technology
assistance to the public; design, plan and implement educational
programming to children under the age of 12; build
relationships with youth and their families to promote and nurture
pre-reading and reading skills; forge partnerships with community groups
and organizations to foster literacy and lifelong learning; develop,
analyze and maintain collections for children
and families; supervise, lead and guide paraprofessional staff; and
communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with staff and the
public.
The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in
library science or
information and library science from an ALA accredited program plus
two years of relevant experience working with children. A strong
knowledge of children’s literature, children’s programming, and child
development. Strong abilities to interpret,
communicate and present information both orally and in writing. The
ability to thrive in an environment with constant public interaction. A
positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to
work with a diverse group of people.
Leadership skills to supervise, motivate and guide paraprofessional
staff. The ability to use a wide variety of technology. Ability to
creatively solve problems, multi-task and prioritize.
This is a full-time position
with benefit package and a starting hourly rate of $29.52. One evening per week and Saturdays on a rotation required.
