Library Assistants - Plumb Memorial Library and Huntington Branch, Shelton, CT

Library Assistants - The Plumb Memorial Library and Huntington Branch seek enthusiastic and tech-savvy team players with excellent customer service skills and a commitment to the importance of the library in the community. These are part time positions ranging in hours weekly from 15-29 hours.
     Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Delivery of excellent customer service to all ages. Check materials in and out using Bibliomation software. Organizing the book carts to prepare them for shelving. Assist patrons in person and over the phone. Introduce patrons to all library services, collections and technology. Provide light reference services and reader’s advisory. Issue library cards. Help manage holds, overdue items and interlibrary loan requests and returns. Collect fines and record book sale money and copy money. Provide internet, email, copying, printing and other technology assistance. Recording statistics, registering patrons for programs and museum pass and meeting room reservations through Engaged Patron and Google calendar. Assisting patrons with faxes, copier and printers, Microsoft computers programs, Bibliomation book searches and reserves. Answering phone queries, retrieving library items for patrons on an as needed basis. Organize displays and lists of seasonal and award-winning books, magazines, music and DVDs for patron usage. Processing the movement of Plumb and Huntington materials to and from other libraries. Help maintain office and library circulation supplies. Prepare library for opening. Turn on all equipment. Turn on computer programs on work stations, empty drop cart and check in items from night before. Assist with closing procedures. Turn off computers, check to make sure that all patrons have left the building, etc. Organize and straighten library shelves, make sure that books are in strict order on shelves.
     Successful candidate must be a team player with strong technology skills, positive attitude, enjoys working with the public, self-motivated, reliable, flexible and able to multi-task. High school diploma and technology skills required. Prior library experience, college degree and familiarity with library technology are a plus.
