Library Director - The
Town of Monroe is seeking a dynamic and creative professional with
strong leadership skills to serve as Library Director at the Edith
Wheeler Memorial Library.
Monroe is a charming town of 20,000 in
eastern Fairfield County with an excellent school system and a variety
of recreational facilities. Located next to the Town Hall, the library
is a vibrant community center with a fully equipped makerspace, a
self-serve café, and a newly renovated Teen Space.
The Library
Director is responsible for planning, managing, and overseeing all
aspects of the library and its operations. We are looking for someone
who is passionate about books and reading, and dedicated to creating a
welcoming and inclusive environment for every member of the community.
To that end, the ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about outreach and
committed to expanding and adapting services to meet the changing needs
of the town.
The person in this position works with other
municipal departments and schools, community leaders, and local
organizations to develop relevant services. Responsibilities include
managing an $865K operating budget, supervising a dedicated staff (12.78
FTE), and coordinating with Town departments to maintain a 32,000
square foot building. This position reports to the First Selectman and
confers with the Library Board of Trustees.
Minimum required
qualifications: an MLS or MLIS from an accredited institution, plus 7
years of increasingly responsible experience as a librarian in a public
library, including 5 years of supervisory experience.
