Director of Libraries - Goodwin University. Position Type: Full Time. Description:
In partnership with The University of Bridgeport, Goodwin University is
seeking candidates for the Director of Libraries. The Director leads
the Libraries in its mission to meet the needs of prominent cosmopolitan
universities, articulate vision and strategic direction, and serve as a
strong advocate within the larger academic communities.
The
Director of Libraries is the chief administrator for Goodwin University
Hoffman Family Library and University of Bridgeport Wahlstrom Library.
This position reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs
and Dean of Students and is responsible for successful administration
of the Libraries in accordance with all properly authorized policies and
procedures representative of the University Consortium. The Director
also leads in outreach and engagement by defining and communicating the
role of the Libraries within the broader academic community. The
Director also advocates for resources necessary to achieve the
libraries’ mission and goals, enhances existing resources, and supports
the functions and growth of Library services. This position will have
two offices, one at Hoffman Family Library and one at Wahlstrom Library.
Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee the day-to-day management of both Libraries, including
creating, reviewing, and updating library polices. Manage all aspects of
the Consortium Library systems. Prepare, present, and manage the
operational budget for both Libraries. Hire, supervise, and evaluate all
Library staff (professional, clerical, and student employees). Approve
staff schedule and processes the payroll. Plan and direct the goals,
objectives, and operations of both University Libraries. Analyze
information on the effectiveness and efficiency of both Libraries and
recommends operating policies and procedures. Prepare regular
statistical reports for University administration. Participate in the
selection and evaluation of Library materials through consultation with
program directors and staff members, as well as independent analysis.
Maintain daily contact with staff regarding systems operations problems.
Troubleshoot system equipment problems and provides guidance to system
users. Prepare, monitor, and report on the annual budget for both
Libraries. Serve as the designee for both Universities on Library
matters such as relevant professional, state and regional accrediting
and regulatory agencies. Collaborate with all academic deans on shared
programming, instruction, facilities and other relevant areas. Manages
and maintains vendor relations. Works to continually improve the
academic resources of both Libraries. Attend meetings and participate in
professional Library organizations; represent the University in Library
associations. Create an environment that facilitates scholarly activity
with an understanding of innovative and traditional methods of
information dissemination. Promote an organizational and educational
climate that embraces and celebrates diversity. Delegate authority to
others for specific administrative tasks.
Other Functions:
Perform similar or related work as required, directed or as situation
dictates. Continue professional development and training; keep current
with trends.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill: Considerable
knowledge of the principles and practices of academic Library
administration and Library best practices. Considerable knowledge of
computer technology as it relates to academic Library functions.
Considerable ability in oral and written communications. Critical and
creative problem-solving skills. Financial management skills. Commitment
to fostering a diverse staff and serving a diverse community.
Considerable ability to administer the activities of a Library system
and to supervise the work of others. Considerable ability to establish
and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, coworkers,
associates, officials of other agencies and the general public.
Qualifications - Education, Training and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library Information Science from
an accredited institution. Minimum seven years of progressive Library
administrative experience including at least three years in a
supervisory capacity. Expertise using Library technology/Library
systems. Strong commitment to higher education at the undergraduate and
graduate levels
