Children's Librarian - Enfield Public Library, CT

Children's Librarian - The Enfield Public Library is looking for our next Children’s Librarian. The position is focused on outreach to young children. Duties will include taking story times to preschools around Enfield as well as creating displays in the library and processing and cataloging Children’s Materials.      Full Time: 35-hour work week Salary: $28.59 per hour

     GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible for library outreach to children and families and cataloging of children and teen library materials. Work is of diversified nature involving contact with children of grade school age. Performs related library work as required.
     SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Head Children/Teen Services Librarian.
     SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
     ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Outstanding customer service; regular and punctual attendance; responsible for planning and implementing library outreach activities for children and families; builds and maintains relationships with schools and town/local organizations serving children and teens; processes and catalogs library materials for youth; assists patrons in the location and selection of materials; assists with children’s programs; may assist in the selection of children collection materials; creates and maintains displays in the children’s area of the library.
     OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Assists at the circulation desk; performs other duties as necessary.

     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; knowledge of library reference and cataloging methods; knowledge of bibliographic sources of information; knowledge of library books and materials for children; ability to make decisions of other than a routine nature; ability to work with persons of all ages, especially children on an individual and group basis; ability to maintain appropriate records and reports of activities; must be proficient with a computer.
     PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: Ability to work well with associates and the public in a courteous manner; ability to communicate well with individuals, especially children; neat personal appearance; emotionally stable; initiative; judgment; pleasing manner.
     EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Requires Bachelor's Degree plus two (2) years related library experience. Master of Library Science preferred. Possession of a valid driver’s license and transportation for outreach visits is required.
