Reference Librarian - The Brookfield Library

Reference Librarian - The Brookfield Library. 10 hours per week. Classification: Hourly. Starting Salary: $23.00 per hour. Bargaining Union: N/A. Supervisor: Library Director. Scope: The Reference Librarian will be responsible for providing reference, reader’s advisory guidance, programming, and other services to all customers of the library.
     Responsibilities: Provide reference help and reader’s advisory guidance to library customers. Instruct customers in the use of the online catalog, online information programs, and the Internet. Provide interlibrary loan service to customers. Assist in planning, organizing and conducting library programs. Recommend materials for acquisition to or withdrawal from library collections. Prepare and update bibliographies and special format directories of library materials; assist in compiling statistics. Maintain orderly appearance and decorum in the library. Attend professional meetings, as appropriate. Perform a variety of circulation desk duties. Perform other related duties as required.
     Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Excellent organizational skills. Ability to multitask and complete multiple projects on-time and within budget. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including database management. Ability to interact professionally with multiple levels of the general public, Town Officials and Town Employees. Significant combination of understanding of modern library objectives, knowledge of library materials and equipment, initiative, good judgment, accuracy, flexibility. Ability to operate or be trained in operation of office machines and computer terminals. Must be able to understand, explain and enforce rules, regulations and library policies.
     Education and Training: High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in Library or Information Science or related field required. MLS from an ALA accredited library school preferred. Minimum of Two (2) years relevant experience in a Librarian capacity.
