Summer Reading Program Assistant - Wheeler Library, North Stonington. Position
Description Summary: Under direct supervision of the Library Director,
plans, develops, and manages the Summer Reading Program.
Professional Objectives: Assists in children’s library program planning,
development, implementation, and evaluation. Directs the summer reading
program. Prepares crafts, games, experiments, and other literacy and
pre-literacy activities; and researches appropriate educational
activities to fit the summer reading program theme. Interacts with
programmers and manages visits from performers. Assists with patron
services to children and their families. Performs other related duties
as assigned, typically including shelving items, maintaining bulletin
boards and tabletop activities, etc.
Skill Set Requirements and
Minimum Education Requirements: Regular and consistent attendance for
the assigned work hours is essential. Must be enrolled in, or graduated
from, an accredited college degree program in any related area such as
early childhood education, elementary education, or library science.
Knowledge and/or interest in the educational, developmental, and
interest levels of different populations served (preschool through fifth
grade). Equipment utilized includes personal computer, copier, and
other standard office equipment.
Duration: Approximately May 4,
2020 – August 14, 2020. This position is not eligible for benefits.
Schedule: TBD. Up to ten hours/week. Salary Information: Will depend on
experience.
