Library Associate - Gateway Community College

Library Associate - Gateway Community College, New Haven. 12-month, tenure track position. Full Time. Anticipated Starting Date: Spring 2020. Under the direction of the Director of Library Services, The Library Associate is accountable for providing and overseeing helpful, efficient and courteous service to the library’s patrons to support their use of the library’s resources through effective performance in one or more of these essential functional areas, as assigned: Circulation; Interlibrary Loan; Technical Services; Public Service; Training and Leading Staff. In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the Library Associate is required to carry out the essential duties of attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; service on assigned committees and task forces; attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. All of these may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.
     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree with a preference for Library Technical Science or a subject area related to library services in the academic field; The Library Associate is required to have: demonstrated ability to perform one or more functional areas of librarianship at a beginning professional level of competence; demonstrated ability to train and guide library support staff; demonstrated ability to interact favorably with library patrons; strong information technology literacy skills.      DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience using learning platforms such as Banner, Blackboard and library systems such as ExLibris ALMA and PRIMO. Ability to communicate and work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community, including the demonstrated ability to respond to and work with diverse and varied student populations.
     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) or more years of academic library experience; Strong word-processing skills, including advanced knowledge in the most recent Office Suite including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to work under pressure in multitask situations; problem solving and decision-making skills; strong interpersonal skills including active listening; ability to train and supervise student workers; experience with computer hardware and software, knowledge of filing procedures; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, by phone and in person; and reading ability to interpret complex policy documents.
     STARTING SALARY: $47,390 approximate annual, plus excellent State supported fringe benefits. The final candidate will be required to successfully pass a background check and submit Official Transcripts.
