Reference Assistant - Bristol Public Library, City of Bristol. Summary: Provides assistance to patrons in the
library, via telephone and through e-mail by answering routine reference
questions and in the use of reference sources and materials. Instructs
the public in the use of library resources including the Internet,
online databases, indices, books, periodicals, etc.; and assists patrons
in the use of microfilm readers and printers. Assists throughout the
library as needed. May plan and conduct library tours and programs. May
be assigned a variety of reference duties related to the Bristol History
Room.
Type/Schedule: Full-time position, working 37.50 hours per week.
September through June, work Monday through Thursday, and alternate
Fridays and Saturdays; for the months of July and August, work Monday
through Friday.
Qualifications: Requires Bachelor of Arts Degree from a four (4)
year college with one (1) year of reference experience; or, an Associate
of Arts Degree from an accredited school with two (2) years reference
experience. Requires strong written and oral communication skills,
commitment to customer service, and good inter-personal skills. Expert
knowledge of database software; intermediate knowledge of Internet
software; and intermediate knowledge of word processing software are
required.
Benefits include Defined Benefit Pension Plan, generous time off

$20.37/hourly, increase to $22.31/hr.@ 6 months, and to $23.17/hr.@ 1
year.
