is seeking a Head of Youth Services for our busy, well-staffed
Children’s Department. This position provides administrative oversight
of the Youth Services Department, including supervising staff and
volunteers; managing and reporting on YSD budget; planning, executing
and evaluating innovative youth programs; conducting outreach in the
community; providing readers’ advisory and reference desk support;
long-range planning for children’s services and the facilities; and
developing and maintaining the youth print and media collections.
The ideal candidate will be energetic and creative, with the
ability to work both independently and collaboratively, manage multiple
projects and meet deadlines. Candidate must have the ability to nurture
and guide YSD staff and have a commitment to providing a welcoming,
vibrant space for all. Ideal candidate will possess the professionalism
and diplomacy needed to interact successfully with children and their
caregivers, colleagues, educators/school administrators and the
community at large. Candidate must have knowledge of best practices and
current trends in promoting early literacy through children’s collection
development and programming. This is a full-time, 35 hour per week
position, including weekend and evening shifts.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, MLS preferred. Must
have prior library experience, a minimum of 3 years supervisory
experience preferred. Salary commensurate with education and
experience; meets ALA-recommended minimum salary guidelines. Benefit
