Supervisor of Circulation - City of Bristol, Bristol Public Library. Summary: Plans, directs and supervises the Circulation Department and coordinates circulation services between the Main Library and the Manross Library. Performs professional library services assisting patrons in the selection and borrowing of materials. Provides training and supervision to professional staff, library assistants and clerks. Organizes and directs the work of Circulation in general book and non-book lending, borrower registration, fine collection, museum pass borrowing, and opening and closing procedures. Makes recommendations and participates in near-term and long-range planning of general library policies and services as related to circulation. Examines professional publications and other sources for book selection, periodicals and related materials. Provides policy resolution for patrons. Keeps abreast of developments and technological advances in the library field, current events, popular reading interests, and other issues to maintain awareness of public information needs. Prepares statistical and narrative reports. Attends meetings and participates in professional library organizations, and acts as a liaison to Library Connection regarding all circulation functions.
     Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school with 5 years progressively responsible public library experience, including 3 years supervisory experience in a library division. Demonstrated experience in managing digital collections and vendor fulfillment and services.
     Knowledge/Abilities: Knowledge of current library trends and best practices, supervisory methods, including work delegation, scheduling, and evaluating performance. Requires effective communication skills, strong customer service skills, working knowledge of computer applications for library services including SIERRA; and intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Excel spreadsheet capability.
     Physical Demands & Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Regularly works in indoor or office environment.
     Classification & Work Hours: Full-time position, 37 ½ hours per week. Schedule: 3 days a week from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and 2 days a week from 12:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. September thru June - work alternate Fridays and Saturdays. During July and August - the library is closed on Saturdays; the work week is Monday thru Friday.

     Salary: $25.61/hourly. ($27.96 @6 months, $28.32 @1 year.)
