Library Technical Assistant, Children's Department - North Haven Memorial Library. Duties and Responsibilities: The Library Technical Assistant is responsible for assisting the supervisor in the provision of Children’s Services. Employee is required to perform all similar duties. Assists with the development and implementation of children’s programming. Presentations to children at the town elementary schools and childcare centers. May request and is responsible for incentives from local businesses in support of library programs. Assists supervisor with the ordering of program-related materials and supplies. Creates publicity using social media and other news sources. Maintains and updates the children’s section of the library website. Provides instruction in library skills to patrons and staff as needed. Maintains and creates displays and flyers. Performs all circulation duties. Provides reference services. Assists in the repair and maintenance of library books and materials. Responsible for opening, closing, and securing the children’s department in the absence of the supervisor. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Accepts additional duties as assigned and is qualified to work in any department within the library organization.
     Abilities: Ability to greet the public courteously with a special affinity for children. Interest and knowledge of children’s literature desirable; knowledge of social media and library databases; ability to work well with others. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 25 pounds.
     Education and Experience: High School diploma; Associates or Bachelor’s Degree desirable but not necessary. Prior experience in a library a plus.
     Hours: 35 hours a week. Must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends without exception. This is a bargaining unit position.
     Salary $22.13/hr. Benefit package.
