Substitute Information / Children’s Services Librarian – Russell Library
Join a Busy, Award-Winning Library! Russell Library, Middletown’s
award-winning public library, needs qualified Substitute Librarians to
carry out reference and readers advisory services to adult patrons in
our Information Services Department, and to children in our busy
Children’s Department. At our Information Desk you will assist patrons
with the computer catalog and other electronic resources, answer
reference questions and provide reader’s advisory assistance, guide
patrons in use of the Internet, and troubleshoot minor problems with
software applications. You may also help prepare resource lists or
assist in some aspect of collection development or weeding. In the
Children’s Department you will be actively involved in reader’s advisory
and reference and occasionally assist with programming. You may also
guide patrons as a homework helper, aid in the use of the Internet and
troubleshoot minor problems with software applications. Applicants must
have a Master’s Degree in Library Science and some working or internship
experience in a public library. Also needed are: a genuine desire to
work with children and adults of all ages, a basic knowledge of
children’s literature and child development, strong reference and
communication skills, a working knowledge of reference tools and library
databases, and skill in the use of Word and Excel. Experience with the
Innovative Interfaces Millennium integrated library system is a plus.
