Science and Health Sciences Librarian - Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT. Sacred Heart University is the second-largest Catholic university in New England. Sacred Heart University has as a strategic goal to significantly improve the Library as a center of learning that supports the vision of the University for the 21st Century. To this end, the University is providing the necessary resources, and the Library has embarked on initiatives that both encourage and challenge the staff. Significant among these initiatives are a required credit-bearing information literacy course, a broadened role for the Library at the University, and an organizational structure that promotes the broader role. Librarians are also supported in the performance professional service and publication. A building program is currently in the design development stage.



Working in collaboration with other librarians and faculty colleagues, the Consulting/Research Librarian for the Sciences and Health Sciences supports the learning and teaching mission of the University. He or she develops and maintains consultative relationships and an array of user-centered services in support of the research, instructional and resource needs of the students and faculty in the sciences and health sciences. The principle duties and responsibilities of the position include: developing and updating subject guides, pathfinders and other relevant tools; selecting science and health science resources, and cooperating in the selection of core materials; teaching introductory and/or advanced information literacy and instruction sessions; advocating on behalf of the science and health science programs in library planning; participating in the delivery of public services and the management of the Research Services Department; and participating with faculty colleagues in academic governance. Requirements of the position: MLS from an ALA accredited program of Library Science. Second master's degree in a science or health science field, or A.H.I.P. certification. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Creativity in teaching and the development of user-centered services. Ability to work and lead in a team oriented environment.
