Systems Librarian - Yale University Library

Systems Librarian - Integrated Library Technology Services, Yale University Library. Rank: Librarian I. RESPONSIBILITIES: Runs, coordinates and monitors production services ensuring reliable performance, data integrity, and timely and accurate completion of jobs. These services include: database loads, extracts, and transfers; the creation of database analysis and statistical reports; and the maintenance of application parameter and configuration tables. Participates in system upgrades, new release installations, and special projects related to our core systems and services in functional areas including access services, acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, electronic collections, ILL, online catalog and the library shelving facility. Systems Librarians are frequently responsible for overall project management. Prepares specifications for new programs and system enhancements related to our core applications, and coordinates testing, documentation creation and training. Coordinates the transition of newly implemented systems to production status. Establishes productive relationships with individuals and organizations at Yale and at other institutions, particularly those using the same core systems as the Yale Library, in order to advance the Library's objectives. Serves as an expert resource within the Library regarding core production systems. Routinely serves on committees and task forces. QUALIFICATIONS: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent combination of relevant experience and training. Thorough understanding of MARC. Knowledge of Unicode and other standards for representation of library information in electronic form such as METS, MODS, EAD, etc. is desirable. Experience with Endeavor's Voyager ILS highly desirable. Project management experience is desirable. Understanding of library operations. Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with both library and technical staff. Strong organizational skills. Excellent attention to details. Demonstrated technical aptitude. Strong analytical skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven ability to work within a team environment and actively promote collaboration. Preferred: Knowledge of Oracle SQL, Unix, Voyager, MetaLib, SFX, OCLC, HTML, and XML.
