Reference Librarian, Part-time - Faxon Branch, West Hartford PL

Reference Librarian, Part-time - (15 hours /week), Salary: $25.44 per hour. SEARCH RE-OPENED. The Faxon Branch of the West Hartford Public Library seeks a team player to provide services in a busy, community-based branch in the Elmwood neighborhood. Duties include: providing reference and readers' advisory service to users including children, teens, adults and seniors; coordinating adult collection development and promotion including selection, weeding, marketing, and displays; providing instruction such as internet training both individually and in groups. May supervise other staff in specific tasks and assume responsibility for the branch in the absence of the Branch Manager. Candidates should demonstrate an excellent public service attitude, strong reference/readers' advisory skills, knowledge of public library collection development practices, good oral and written communication skills, ability to self-pace, and a high degree of initiative. Should possess the ability to apply a knowledge of library principles and good judgment to solve practical problems. Since the staff is small flexibility is necessary along with a commitment to work with the branch team to adapt all services to the needs of an increasingly multicultural user group. Basic schedule includes: Wednesday 5-9, every Friday 1-5 and alternate Saturdays 9-5. Other shifts might include a Monday night, an afternoon or additional weekend hours. Qualifications: ALA/MLS. Previous professional experience and a second language is preferred. Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
