Head of Technical Services - University of Hartford Libraries. Position Summary: Provides leadership and supervision of the Technical Services department, which includes the monographic, serials, and interlibrary loan units. Establishes departmental priorities, policies and procedures to ensure expeditious acquisition and thorough bibliographic control of materials. Key Responsibilities (* indicates an "essential" job function): Establishes, maintains and monitors system-wide cataloging policies and procedures in coordination with the Assistant Head of the Allen Library. Acts as the primary liaison to OCLC and its regional affiliate, NELINET, as well as other cataloging vendors and organizations. Performs both original and complex copy cataloging for materials in multiple formats. Creates and maintains local authority records. Serves as back-up system administrator for the integrated library system.* Represents the Library on various internal and external committees. Serves as an integral member of the Library Council. As a member of the Collection Department Committee, advises on the status of acquisition funds and provides regular reports on expenditures. Establishes cooperative relationships with faculty to determine curriculum needs and serves as a subject selector.* Provides leadership, management, guidance and evaluation to the technical services department staff.* Establishes, cultivates and maintains productive relationships with external acquistions and serials vendors. Identifies and participates in cooperative or consortial arrangements beneficial to the University Libraries.* Maintains awareness of trends and advances in the field through participation in relevant professional organizations. Attends conferences and meetings to promotes and ensures continuing professional development. Oversees the budget for Technical Services to ensure prudent fiscal management. Creates and maintains acquisition fund lines. Develops accurate statistical reports for the Director on all serial budget requirements to assist in making appropriate recommendations. Performs other related duties as assigned. Formal Education: Master's Degree of Library Science from an A.L.A accredited institution required. Work Experience: 3 years to <5 years.
