Library Director, Town of Burlington

Library Director - Town of Burlington. Hiring Range: $46,000 - $53,000, negotiable, based on skills and experience. Excellent benefits. This position is responsible for the overall direction and management of the library, staff, equipment, patron support and administrative duties. Situated at the foot of the Berkshires and bordering the Farmington River, Burlington is a scenic hill town, rural in nature, located 20 miles west of Hartford. Incorporated in 1806, its population is close to 8,500. The municipal library is a new, lovely 10,000 square foot facility with approx. 50,000 volumes and a unique small town library atmosphere. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the library. 2. Implement and maintain appropriate library materials and resources, in both print and non-print form. Perform regular collection analysis and development. 3. Develop a budget plan (including library and capital needs, salaries, etc.). 4. Hire, train, manage, and evaluate staff of 8 for 54 hours of weekly operation. 5. Establish and administer library policies and procedures. 6. Work with Board of Directors and active "Friends" fundraising organizations. Create, organize and present reports to these and other town boards, as well. 7. Develop and maintain appropriate and accessible electronic resources in the library. 8. Provide exemplary and varied patron service. 9. Oversee the maintenance of the building and contents. Advise the Library Board of the need for capital improvements. 10. Participate in strategic planning for future needs and potential major facility expansion. Lead implementation of the resulting plan. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills: MLS from an ALA-accredited school is required. Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience is required, with 3 years of practical, relevant library experience. Experience in budgeting to meet strategic initiatives. Computer network experience required. Experience using online databases, the Internet, and traditional print resources is desirable. Must have solid computer skills in using a variety of applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Outlook.
