Head of Access & Visitor Services (Library Assistant 3 - Manager) - UConn Library, Storrs Campus

The UConn Library seeks a collaborative and people-focused Head of Access & Visitor Services. The successful candidate will envision and lead the next generation of responsive access and visitor services for the UConn community and the citizens of the State of Connecticut. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Academic Engagement, this position leads and manages the Access & Visitor Services unit, supervising five full time professional staff responsible for collectively providing exceptional customer and public services at the Homer Babbidge Library, UConn’s main library and a hub of student activity at the Storrs campus. This position connects the Unit’s work to the UConn community and leads the Unit in assessing and implementing technologies, resources, and services.
     As an active member of the Library’s Academic Engagement area and guided by our Strategic Framework of Connect, Empower, and Engage the successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of the Library through collaboration and relationship-building and demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, professional judgment, and decision-making practices while reinforcing the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice in daily responsibilities.
     Along with all UConn Library personnel, the Head of Access & Visitor Services will demonstrate respect in all interactions within the Library and across the University and will exemplify the UConn Library values of kindness and trust, curiosity and inquiry, equity and inclusion, and having fun.
     Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

     Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position. Minimum of six years related professional experience. Demonstrated commitment to and approach in providing and training others in exceptional customer and public service skills. Supervisory experience and knowledge of principles and best practices of employee supervision. Must demonstrate a commitment and ability to uphold inclusive management practices. Demonstrated understanding of Library Management Systems with the ability to remain current and communicate and collaborate on effective use of the platform across all UConn Library locations. Demonstrated ability to actively and effectively engage with stakeholder communities. Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice. Advanced interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
     Preferred Qualifications: A graduate degree in Library and Information Science from and American Library Association-accredited institution (or an international equivalent). Leading or participating in actions or initiatives in support of advancing student success. Direct experience with Library Management Systems in a professional capacity. Proven success in leading and implementing change. Demonstrated experience in providing user assessment and developing recommendations for improving services or resources.
