Library Media Specialist - New Hartford Public Schools

Library Media Specialist - The New Hartford Public Schools has the following teaching position available for the 2017-2018 school year: Library Media Specialist (1.0 FTE). Requirements: Connecticut certification as a library media specialist 062 or 048. Reports to: Principal/Director of Curriculum. Performance and Responsibilities: Plans and administers the school media program, working cooperatively with the principal, other media staff, and users, delegating duties and appropriate authority to member of the school media staff. Plans and implements library media policies. Assists with the selection of personnel for the school library media program. Encourages students and teachers to take full advantage of the library media center and its resources. Interprets the school library media program to students, faculty, administration, and community. Evaluates, selects, and requisitions new library media materials and equipment. Informs teachers, other staff members and students about library materials and assists in their appropriate selection. Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for processing and cataloging all library media materials and equipment, and instructs teachers and students in the use of the system. Arranges for inter-library loan of materials for teachers and students. Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library media facilities. Helps students develop habits of independent reference work and skill in the use of reference materials in relations to assignments. Works cooperatively with teachers in presenting and discussing materials with class and studying a particular topic. Counsels with and gives reading guidance to students of all levels of ability and with special needs. Promotes acquisitions of and use of electronic information services. Prepares and administers the media center budget in consultation with media staff, teachers, and the principal. Supervises library media aides and volunteers in the performance of their duties. Carries out such other related tasks as the principal may from time to time assign. Salary Range: As Per the New Hartford Education Association Contract. Closing Date: May 1, 2017.
