Library Assistant (2 positions) - Choate Rosemary Hall Andrew Mellon Library

Library Assistant (2 positions) - Choate Rosemary Hall Andrew Mellon Library. The Library Assistant works with the Library Database Manager to carry out the policies and procedures of the circulation and overdue program and processes all library materials. There are 2 openings: one full-time, academic year, benefits eligible, non-exempt staff position; and one part-time, academic year, non-benefits eligible, non-exempt staff position. Both positions require day, evening and some weekend hours.
     Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Participates in the staff duty rotation at the service desk and is responsible for providing exemplary customer service for students, faculty, staff and visitors. 2. Supervises students in library work crew program. 3. Manages overdue notices for students, staff and faculty. 4. Manages newspaper subscriptions including campus deliveries and vacation suspension schedules. 5. Participates in processing purchased materials and gift books. 6. Generates book plates as needed for collections items following established policies and procedures. 7. Manages and prepares special reserve materials for loan including textbooks, laptops, chargers and other equipment as needed. 8. Processes, maintains and weeds the periodical collection following established policies and procedures. 9. Oversees clearance process for term abroad, leave of students, and end of the year clearance for library materials. 10. Serves as the liaison to the Finance Office for generating charges for lost materials at year end. 11. Participates in large scale projects such as weeding and stack maintenance work under the direction of various faculty librarian project managers. 12. Repairs library materials as needed to preserve and keep them in the collection or flags those items for re-order if needed. 13. Participates in the recommendation process of book purchases for the library collections. 14. Available to assist with other projects as needed.
     Requirements: Ability to work well with young people and others and provide excellent customer service. Ability to input data with a high degree of accuracy. Excellent small motor skills for processing books. Knowledge of basic computer software and hardware. Must be reliable and flexible and a team player. Must have the ability to communicate well. Ability to work evenings/weekends.
     Essential Physical Requirements: Ability to regularly walk up and down stairs. Ability to work in book stacks - which includes climbing on stools to reach books on high shelves and to read call numbers of books on the bottom shelf. Ability to sit for periods of time at the service desk.
