Library Program Aide - Cos Cob Branch Library, Greenwich Library.
Part-Time (15 hours/week). Salary: $19.00 Hourly. General Statement of
Duties: Facilitate children's library programs and assist in other areas
of children's services as well as helping out all patrons as needed at
the Circulation desk.
Job Description: Under the supervision of the Branch
Manager, plans and implements age appropriate library programs
incorporating the use of well-chosen children's literature, traditional
storytelling, music and other media; interacts effectively and with
positive energy and enthusiasm in all transactions with children.
Assists the Branch Manager and part time Children's Librarian in
educating and advising parents, both in areas of literature selection
and in specific programs, modeling and encouraging family literacy.
Assists young people in locating library materials which respond to
their needs as readers, students and consumers of information; works
with parents and caregivers of children. May be asked to work some
Saturdays in addition to weekdays.
Education & Experience: Graduation from high school
supplemented by two years of college, plus one year of related work
experience involving working with groups of children.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of
children's literature. General clerical and technical ability and
knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to communicate
effectively and harmoniously with staff and patrons. Ability to deal
effectively and positively with groups of children, teaching staff,
parents and members of the general public. Sufficient ability to read,
write and speak the English language to perform the functions of the
position and to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors,
government agencies and the general public. Ability to work
harmoniously with other personnel. Ability to follow oral instructions.
Ability to lift and move furniture/equipment in excess of 25 lbs.
