Full-Time Teen Librarian -

Darien Library (CT) seeks a creative, energetic, and enthusiastic candidate to join an incredibly dedicated Children’s and Teen Department as a full-time librarian. The highly-motivated candidate will have a passion for hospitality, experience working with youth, a love of young adult literature, and a desire to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Qualifications: MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library and information sciences graduate program required. 1 to 3 years’ experience in a public library or educational institution preferred. Experience working with youth, specifically ages 10 to 18, and knowledge of corresponding library services and materials. Collection development experience or coursework preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to provide extreme customer service to the community. Strong aptitude in written and oral communication. Knowledge of current library trends within teen services, and evidence of participation in conversations about the profession on a national level. Proficiency with new and emerging technologies, as well as Microsoft Office Applications. Knowledge of design software, gaming systems, and coding are a plus. Candidates should be active participants on social media, specifically with outlets that are popular with youth.  Available to work evenings and weekends. Bilingual candidates, or those with knowledge of another language, are highly desirable.  Responsibilities: Manage the collection development of print and digital materials for young adults. Plan and conduct programming and outreach duties for tweens and teens. Oversee and prepare the budget for teen services. Provide exemplary reference and readers’ advisory services to teens, parents, and other adults.  Perform outreach to the middle school and high school, attend monthly youth advisory meetings, and maintain working relationships with local educators and youth organizations. Work collaboratively with the Children’s Library and Adult Services to provide programming and services that support the young adult collection. Compensation $52,650 to $56,000 annually, as well as generous vacation, sick, and personal leave.
