Children’s Librarian – Public Library of New London UPDATED




The position of children’s librarian is now open at the Public Library of New London in New London, CT. This position will work primarily with children from birth through age five and their families/caregivers and there is a large component of outreach.

The ideal candidate has experience working with young children and their families and in applying early and pre-literacy concepts (such as the skills and practices in  Every Child Ready to Read).  Strong  second  language skills (English/Spanish) are a plus.

The transition to an all-magnet school district is creating an emphasis on the culture of  learning through partnerships. The library, as an important community partner, received a 20% increase in the budget for FY 2016.

New London is located on Long Island Sound with direct access to the Atlantic Ocean. There are many recreational amenities in the city, including Ocean Beach Park, a 50 acre park with a white sand beach and a half-mile board walk . There are three colleges in New London and an active arts scene.  The main Amtrak line between Boston and New York is three blocks from the library.

This is a full-time position with benefits and the starting salary is CLA minimum $48,230 for a 35 hour week. MLS/MLIS degree required.  A car and valid CT driver’s license is required.
