Teen Librarian – Russell Library

Russell Library is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and engaging Teen Librarian to help chart the course of our newly reorganized and expanded teen services.  Our Strategic Plan has led us to refocus on our services to the teens of Middletown, and we are looking for a positive, team-oriented and innovative individual to help take on this commitment.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Spearhead planning for teen programming at Russell Library, coordinating with individuals and agencies to organize programs.
Publicize library events, services and programs to teens.
Cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with local schools and youth groups.
Work regular evening and weekend shifts in order to serve teens when they are most likely to be in the library.
Keep track of the latest young adult trends, literature and pop culture.
Be familiar with and comfortable using the latest technology and social media.
Think creatively and flexibly about teen services, resources and programs—and inspire teens to do the same!
Identify, apply for and implement grants.
Serve a diverse teen community representative of Russell Library’s patron base.

Examples of incidental duties:
Regular shifts on the Reference Desk.
Prepare displays and exhibits.
Present oral and written reports in a clear and understandable way, including presentations before large groups.
Actively participate in professional development opportunities and continuing education.
Other duties as required.

General qualifications:  An MLS is required.  One year of professional library experience or other work with teens is desired.  You will be part of a team, so working well with others is critical.  It will be equally important to be motivated and self-directed enough to work without close supervision.  And most importantly, you have to be passionate about serving teens.

FY16 salary range starts at $49,652
35 hours a week

If you are interested in applying for the position of Teen Librarian, please email your cover letter, resume and application to Jason Neely, Head of Information Services, jdneely@russell.lioninc.org by 4:00 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2015.  Interviews will be held in late July.  Applications can be found at http://russelllibrary.org/about_us/employment.html
