I.
Position Summary:
This position is located in the Library of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New
London, Connecticut, a four year, accredited, degree-granting institution and
center of leadership development for the Coast Guard. The incumbent is
responsible for inter-library loan and circulation of library materials to
support the education and training outcomes of the Academy.
II.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1) The incumbent acts as
the technician in charge of inter-library loan and circulation for the library.
2) Performs all
functions associated with interlibrary loan including but not limited to:
processing items when they arrive; notifying patrons; returning items and
keeping records of each transaction; monitoring transactions and sending
overdue reminders; lending to other libraries, following all state and
national procedures and requirements; maintaining statistics.
3) Performs all
functions associated with circulation of library materials including but not
limited to: issuing new library cards, including issuing new cards to incoming
swabs; tracking delinquent borrowers; managing hold and renewal requests;
preparing course reserves; handling all procedures for graduating cadets to
insure all materials are returned and all graduates are deleted from the
database; keeping and compiling circulation and door counter statistics.
4) As needed, and as
aptitude and abilities dictate, may perform, at the direction of the librarians
or senior technicians duties such as: word processing; filing; formatting and
printing items such as brochures, bookmarks, signs etc; fabrication of
displays; cadet coffee equipment maintenance; time and attendance duties;
building management duties; oversight of student clerks or volunteers; library
tours; shelving; shelf reading; shifting of collections; inventory; binding
assistance; staffing circulation desk; answering directional questions;
5) Performs other
duties as requested by the Director.

is a federal civil service position with a salary range at the GS-5 level ($35,207.00 to $45,772.00). The federal
