Technical Services Assistant - University of Hartford Libraries. Job Code: A2818. Employment Class Code: N3; Salary Grade: I; FLSA Classification: Non-exempt. Reports to Head of Technical Services. Position Summary: The University of Hartford Libraries Technical Services Assistant assumes responsibility for print and electronic serial control, including but not limited to updating information in library databases and print collection in regards to periodicals. This position performs all duties in full support of the University’s brand, understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties is instrumental to the University of Hartford’s core business – the recruitment and retention of students. Key Responsibilities: Maintain and update print and electronic journals in library databases (local catalog, national holdings database, online journal listing). Assume responsibility for the organization and maintenance of the periodical collection, compact storage, and microfilm collections held at the University Libraries. Maintain on-going correspondence with publishers and subscription agents, and be responsible for serial claiming and issue replacement concerns. Open, sort, and process daily mail for the University Libraries. Assume responsibility for journal check-in and issue tracking/claiming. Hire and supervise technical services student staff, as well as hire, train, and supervise student book menders. Assist students with the thesis and dissertation submission process, and work with University departments to ensure protocols and understanding regarding the thesis and dissertation submission process. Collect, receive, prepare, and process materials for binding. Facilitate the management of all donated items, which includes receipt, acknowledgement, and the sorting of materials. Perform copy cataloging and bibliographic record maintenance, and assist with acquisitions, cataloging, and interlibrary services as necessary and appropriate, with other duties as assigned.
