Library Technical Assistant (Full-time), Children’s - Lucy Robbins Welles Library, Newington. Public library seeking a creative, organized individual to provide service to children (infancy through grade 8), including reference, reader’s advisory, collection development, outreach and programming, in a busy children’s department. Duties include but are not limited to: Provide reader’s advisory and reference assistance to patrons of all ages during regular shifts at the Information Desk – schedule includes evening and Saturday hours. Provide tours of the library and assist children, students and parents in using library services and facilities. Organize, coordinate and present storytimes, school visits, and other educational, cultural and library oriented recreational programs for infants through grade 8. Design and deliver community outreach and special projects. Maintain working relationships with teachers, school media specialists, reading consultants, nursery school/daycare teachers and other community agencies and organizations serving children. Maintain all children’s department library materials, including processing, discarding, weeding. Assist with use of computer programs, library databases and online public access catalog. Plan and coordinate bibliographies, bulletin boards, book displays and other publicity materials relating to children and parents. Desired skills, knowledge and abilities: Bachelor’s degree required. Knowledge, love and enthusiasm for age-related literature. Ability to work independently to develop, plan, and organize programs for children. Working knowledge of library reference materials. Basic knowledge of general office procedures. Familiarity with current library technology. Ability to relate in a friendly and open manner with children and parents. Excellent customer service skills. Full-time-35 hours per week with one evening a week and a Saturday rotation. Salary $1,851 biweekly. Excellent benefits.
