Technical Services and Outreach Librarian - University of New Haven Library

Technical Services and Outreach Librarian - University of New Haven Library invites applications for a Technical Services and Outreach Librarian. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the technical services operations in the Library and provide outreach services to students and faculty. This position is expected to contribute to an innovative and collaborative approach to user-centered services and collections. Responsibilities include the main campus library and all branch libraries.Job duties include but are not limited to the following: Responsible for the full range of technical services, including original cataloging; Hires, trains and evaluates staff and student workers; monitors and assesses the department’s productivity and quality of output/work performed; Investigates and evaluates new products to improve workflow and provide better services; Implements procedures and workflow for incorporating serial, books, DVDs and e-resources in the Library’s Catalog utilizing established standards, such as bulk importing of records for e-books; Supervises the U.S. Government Documents depository collection; Manages electronic course reserves; Keeps detailed, accurate statistics of all departmental activities; Collaborates with other librarians in designing library instruction curriculum to enhance lesson plans, design online learning materials, and analyze and present alternative models of information literacy instructions; Provides information literacy instruction and monitors collection development in those areas; keeps abreast with current electronic and print resources in assigned subject areas; Evaluates and selects library materials for areas assigned, as well as other collection development tasks, including weeding; Develops new instruction applications of technology, including design of web-based learning objects and assessment tools; Keeps abreast of best practices in information literacy, including teaching techniques, theory, assessment methods, and new technologies; Serves as subject liaison to one or more academic departments; Provides reference and research services to onsite and distance patrons; Prepares monthly activity reports and other evaluative reports as assigned; Participates in establishing policies/standards/guidelines/procedures for the formulation of the Library’s priorities and the achievement of the Library’s goals; Recommends policy changes to improve services to the University Community; Recommends workflow changes to streamline and improve operations/services; All related duties and projects as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications: MLS degree from an ALA accredited school required; Familiarity with OCLC is essential with demonstrated ability to utilize the cataloging system to take advantage of all its capabilities; Demonstrated knowledge of library cataloging principles and practices, including AACR2, RDA, LC classification and subject headings etc. is essential; Experience with integrated library systems required; familiarity with the Voyager system preferred; Demonstrated knowledge of making materials in a wide variety of formats (print, microform, online) discoverable by our patrons; Library instruction experience is highly desirable; Supervisory experience required.
