Temporary Social Sciences Reference Librarian - Olin Library, Wesleyan University, Middletown. Typical Duties: This position will be responsible for serving as a general temporary reference librarian, with a focus on the social sciences, in Olin Library, until 6/30/2015. In addition to general reference duties, this librarian will serve as subject specialist for the Economics Department and the Psychology Department, selecting materials and working directly with students and faculty. Responsibilities include: Serve as a general reference librarian at the Olin Reference Desk, including one evening per week; Work one Sunday a month during the fall and spring semesters; Teach information literacy classes in the social sciences as requested, including those associated with the First Year Seminar initiative; Create and update online general research guides for Economics and Psychology; Create and maintain course-specific online finding aids for Economics and Psychology; Under the direction of the reference & instruction librarian, create new online guides as requested; Work with the Quantitative Analysis Center in providing library instruction support; Meet with students individually by appointment for personal research sessions; Consult with departmental liaisons in determining collection development decisions of both print and online material; Work collaboratively with the government documents librarian and reference & instruction librarian in achieving departmental and library goals; Keep abreast of trends in the reference and research services in undergraduate institutions; Short- and long-term projects as assigned; Participate in library initiatives as appropriate. Minimum Qualifications: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science or equivalent required. Knowledge of library and digital information resources, including online searching, bibliographic search systems (online catalog, discovery tools, online link resolvers). Ability to work independently as well as collegially with a variety of constituencies within an academic institution. Demonstrated library instruction experience with individuals as well as group settings. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively online and in person using a variety of media. Experience working in a collaborative environment. Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of one year’s experience in public and reference services. Experience at an undergraduate liberal arts institution strongly preferred. Graduate degree in a social science. Demonstrated comfort with statistical data.
