Summer Literacy Support Program Coordinator - Hartford Public Library
is hiring a Summer Literacy Support Program Coordinator to provide
services and programs to Hartford area summer providers at the library.
This program is part of the library’s five summer learning programs, and
is a joint program with Hartford Public Library and its collaborative
partners. This is a fun summer job that offers great pay and a chance to
work independently! This is a contract position without benefits, for
$8,000.00 (based on $20/hr for approximately 400 hours in the contracted
period). Work to commence ASAP and end at end of August. Scope of
Services: Coordinate summer programming for the Summer Literacy Support
Program, a joint program with Hartford Public Library and its
collaborative partners. Includes all agencies participating in the City
of Hartford Department of Families, Children, Youth and Recreation’s
Summer Learning and Enrichment Program and the Hartford Foundation for
Public Giving’s Summer Support program. Register all agency participants
and providers in appropriate Summer Reading Programs; create
individual, specific guidelines for reading and distribute to agencies;
Create menu of services with training, tours, reader services, events,
activities, etc.; Purchase materials for Treasure Box and incentives;
Monitor and track reading; award and distribute incentives; Assign
library staff liaisons to agencies; provide all necessary contact
information; Coordinate and conduct all agency library visits at their
local library branches; create library cards; Conduct all one-on-one
agency literacy, reading, or library trainings, including individual or
small group training by phone or in-person at appropriate local library
branches; Develop book lists for reading or purchase and webliograhies
for all agencies as needed; Create and conduct two literacy-based family
engagement educational events; events will include literacy games,
crafts, activities, snacks, and a special offering; register all
participants; Revise/create literacy-based Family Engagement Activity
Booklet; Coordinate and conduct two ice cream socials for agencies that
reach reading goals as determined by library; Book performers,
coordinate, and lead all workshops for agency participants (10-20
programs depending on size of agency programs); Help create and lead 1-2
sensory story-time and movie events for disabled youth; Work with
agencies at Summer Reading Kickoff (June 7, 2014) and Finale (Aug 14,
2014); Work closely with Youth Services staff at Downtown and branch
libraries; Collect statistical information and compile reports as
needed. Must have valid CT driver’s license and own transportation.
Regular travel within the city of Hartford required. Hartford Public
Library requires a Criminal Background Check and Pre-employment Drug
testing on applicants who are selected as a finalist for the position.
Applicants will be provided a copy of any positive drug test results. A
criminal record does not necessarily eliminate you from employment with
Hartford Public Library. Each conviction will be reviewed with respect
to the offense, circumstances, seriousness, and the position for which
