Children's Programmer - Mark Twain Library, Redding. Would you love working in a vibrant community with a rich history? Mark Twain Library in Redding seeks an energetic, creative, resourceful and caring Children's Programmer who enjoys the challenge and excitement of working with children from babyhood through adolescence as well as their parents and caregivers. The successful candidate organizes, coordinates and carries out storytelling, school visits, and other educational, cultural and library oriented programs for children birth through school age as well as plans and conducts special crafts, hands-on programs, creative story and reading programs. As part of a two person children’s department they will be responsible for assuring that the library is an inviting destination for families with children. Other areas of responsibilities include but are not limited to selection, cataloging and processing and weeding of books and other materials for the children’s collection, participation in special library fundraisers pertaining to children, occasional staffing of circulation desk, attending staff meetings and other training and assisting with displays and bulletin board displays. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in child development, elementary education or other relevant field required. At least two years’ experience with children’s programming in a library or related environment is highly preferred. Knowledge of children’s literature is important. The candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Publisher, Word and Outlook. This is a 22 hours per week position (48 weeks per year) under the supervision of the Head of Children’s which is scheduled around the programming needs of the Library.
