Children's Librarian - East Lyme Public Library
seeks a resourceful, energetic professional Children's and Young Adult
Librarian who enjoys the challenge and excitement of working with
children from babyhood through adolescence as well as their parents and
caregivers. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic
professional with an outstanding knowledge of children's and teen’s
books, authors and reading genres, who will meet the needs of library
users and make our library a destination for families with children.
Areas of responsibility: Supervise the Children's Room and Young Adult
collection while maintaining a welcoming and inviting atmosphere. Manage
the library’s large and well attended summer reading program. Select
children's and young adult print, non-print and electronic materials
using professionally recognized reviewing media. Provide reference
services for children, teens and parents. Create and present programs
for youth from birth to seventeen. Conduct library visits for public
school classes and other youth groups. Work closely with local school
officials. Supervise full time Children’s Room Assistant and several
part time employees. Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS strongly
preferred. Bachelor's degree including course work in library science,
children's literature and information technology required, with
enrollment in an ALA accredited MLS program or a M.Ed. degree program
for school library media desirable. Knowledge of the principles and
practices of professional library work is essential. Experience working
with children in either a public library or school situation required.
Ability to work comfortably in a Windows environment and with Microsoft
Office applications, desktop publishing, social media and email is
necessary. Demonstrated willingness to stay current with technology used
by adolescents and children. Excellent written, verbal and customer
service skills are essential. This position reports to the Director and
Assistant Director. Hours and Benefits: This is a full time (37 hours
per week) and includes health, dental and other benefits. Schedule
includes one evening per week. Salary determined in consideration of
