Children’s Library Specialist - West Hartford Public Library

Children’s Library Specialist - West Hartford Public Library seeks an enthusiastic part-time Children’s Library Specialist to develop and present exceptional programming for children age’s birth through fifth grade. The candidate will plan and conduct storytime programs that include music and movement, puppetry and crafts, will visit preschool and elementary schools, participate in a Summer Reading Skit, offer Book Clubs and programs for school-age children. Training in the Mother Goose on the Loose Early Literacy Program is a plus. We are looking for someone with an extensive knowledge of children’s literature, a background in successful programming in a library or educational setting, an understanding of child development and the ability to work in a multicultural environment. The successful candidate will work with a dedicated Children’s Services team in a very busy library. She/he will possess creativity, energy, flexibility and a good sense of humor, will provide exceptional public service, have solid organizational skills and maintain a positive attitude. The candidate must be able to communicate and enjoy working with children from birth through fifth grade, as well as their parents. Required Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in education or related field and experience in a library/educational setting. Preferred: Masters in Library Science. Speaking fluency in a language other than English that is used in the local community. This is a year-round position of 6 hours per week primarily during the mornings and afternoons, however, evenings and weekends may be expected. Minimum hourly salary: $25.50 hourly.
