Teen Librarian - Norwalk Public Library

Teen Librarian(s) - Norwalk Public Library System, Main Library, 1 Belden Ave. Part-time, 12-19.5 hours per week, $24.55/hour beginning July 1, 2007. Qualifications: Requires: Master's Degree in Library Science. Affinity for young people, especially grades 7 - freshman year of college. Affability, social ability, sense of humor. Communication skills. Innovation, leadership, ability to stay in-tune with teen mind-sets, especially trends and pop culture. Appreciation for diversity and ability to work with multi-ethnic, multi-racial backgrounds. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, i.e. when teens are at the library. Computer skills: ability to operate computers, resolve basic technical problems and assist public computer users; demonstrable database and Internet searching skills. Experience with teens or children preferred. Spanish language skills preferred. Teaching skills desirable. Duties: Public service especially (but not limited to) teens: includes programming, homework help, reader's advisory and collection development, informational services, recreational activities, outreach, interaction with schools and other teen-oriented agencies. May provide information service to general public, including answering information questions via phone and in person; assisting in finding materials; assisting public users with computers; resolving technical problems; creating bibliographies; writing reports; conducting workshops or other programs; developing collection. May assist in training staff. Must be comfortable working with all ages. Must be willing to work in South Norwalk Branch Library if needed.
