Middle/Upper School Librarian - Greenwich Country Day School

Middle/Upper School Librarian - Grades 4-9. The Greenwich Country Day School is an independent, co-educational day school comprised of three divisions - Lower, Middle and Upper schools which serve 840 students in nursery through ninth grade. The school was founded in 1926 and over the years has built an endowment of over $26 million that helps to fund competitive salaries and benefits for faculty as well as a substantial scholarship program for students. Situated on 90 acres, two miles from central Greenwich, the school employs 130 full and part-time teachers and has four academic buildings, four gymnasiums, a dining hall, two libraries, three computer labs, eight playing fields and residences for over sixty percent of its faculty. JOB DESCRIPTION: Assist the Director of Library and Media Services with the following: Evaluate and acquire collection materials to support the curriculum. Teach and support classes in the use of the library materials and technology to access information for papers and reports. Foster an atmosphere among students and faculty that encourages the use and development of the libraries as learning centers. Provide reading guidance and reference assistance in the library and through outreach efforts such as newsletters and publicity. Arrange for library lessons, booktalks, reading and storytelling programs, bibliographies, and reserve collections as requested by teachers. Work with faculty to meet their requests and encourage them to take advantage of materials and services. Share in selecting and reading books added annually to the library. Evaluate collection for additions, deletions, repairs, reorders, reorganization, etc. Help choose books to be included in the GCDS Reading List. Develop and maintain library webpages. Share in cataloging, circulation, and organizational tasks using online automation software. Coordinate the use of the library by regularly scheduled classes, teacher requests for class research, and special events. Attend Divisional and grade level meetings. Work cooperatively with faculty in meetings pertaining to curriculum development and instructional planning. Maintain professional currency, including reading professional books and journals, attending professional conferences, visiting other school libraries, etc. Arrange appropriate programs such as author visits, storytellers, etc. QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in library science. Personal traits for nurturing the growth of children and working cooperatively with adults; kind, enthusiastic, creative, flexible, patient, able to communicate clearly. Sense of humor. Library experience and experience with children preferred.
