Library Director - Rye Free Reading Room (NY)

Library Director - The Board of Directors of Rye Free Reading Room is seeking an energetic leader with a commitment to high quality and innovative public library service to become the next Library Director. A plus for the new Director will be experience with voter participation in budget initiatives and successful fund raising. The Library Director works closely with an engaged 18 member Board of Directors to design and implement strategic planning, facilities planning and budget development, and with a 45-member Auxiliary Board on fundraising and program development. There is a total staff of 17 FTEs, a collection of 75,000 items housed in a landmark building, and an annual operating budget of $1.4 million. Rye, a Sound Shore suburban community in Westchester County, 25 miles from New York City, is home to 15,000 residents who love their library. The library is one of 38 libraries in the Westchester Library System. Successful candidates must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership ability and the ability to work collaboratively with Board, staff, elected officials and community groups. The candidate will have an MLS from an ALA accredited institution and at least 7 years of progressively responsible administrative experience in public libraries. Starting salary is $80,000 to $100,000, commensurate with experience, including an excellent fringe benefit package.
