Head of Children's Services - Darien Library. An exceptional opportunity for the exceptional candidate! The innovative Darien (CT) Library - one of the busiest and best public libraries of its size in the country - seeks a creative, dynamic professional librarian to become manager and team member of Children's Services. The successful candidate will have an MLS degree and at least three years experience in a customer service-driven environment and possess excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and technology skills, as well as knowledge of children's literature and online resources. The Head of Children's Services will work alongside staff conducting programs, providing reader and reference services, and expanding outreach to the community. Department Head duties also include planning annual slate of youth programs, recommending policy and procedures to Administration, and managing a staff of four full-time and four part-time employees. The Darien Library has been continually ranked by HAPLR as one of the top ten libraries in the country for its services and programs. This position is open at an exciting time as the Library embarks on a new building project. The new Children's Library will be 5,500 sq. ft. and include a Children's Technology Center, Storytime Area, Infant/Toddler Room, and a collection of over 60,000 items. Estimated opening of the new library is Fall 2008. Starting salary range: $65,000-$70,000 with excellent benefits.
