Informatics Librarian - University of Connecticut Health Center

Informatics Librarian - The Lyman Maynard Stowe Library at the University of Connecticut Health Center (UCHC) invites applications for an Informatics Librarian position. This position reports to the Library's Information and Educational Services Department. The recently renovated Library is a highly respected department providing services and resources to UCHC's School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, and School of Graduate Studies. In addition, it serves the information needs of UCHC's significant research programs and the John Dempsey Hospital. The library is an early adopter and advocate for new technology including the support of PDAs for students and faculty. More information about the library is at http://library.uchc.edu. Examples of Duties: The Informatics Librarian serves as liaison for departments within UCHC; helps support and further develop the application of evidence-based medicine and new information technology; teaches high level evidence-based medicine searching skills including the role and application of technology; recommends changes in library policies affecting the department; interacts with faculty and students to assess curriculum; provides reference assistance at Service Desk; serves and provides leadership in committees; teaches library skills classes; provides orientation and tours for new faculty/students; works on projects as assigned; may assist in conducting performance evaluations; interviews and makes recommendations in hiring temporaries; participates in the hiring of professionals; may prepare reports and correspondence; assists with department and library long range planning; recommends purchases of library materials and equipment; attends professional meetings and participates in professional organizations; performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Required Knowledge, Skills, Ability: Considerable knowledge of professional principles and practices of library science concepts in a university, research, public or academic health science setting; knowledge of specialized functional procedures; considerable knowledge of library systems, techniques, resources and equipment including a full range of computer based and automatic equipment/systems; knowledge of interrelationships between public, technical and automated library services; interpersonal skills; oral and written communications skills; ability to analyze and solve moderately complex problems relating to library methods and procedures; some supervisory ability. Experience and Training: A Master's Degree in Library Science from a school accredited by the American Library Association, plus one (1) year of post graduate degree employment in a relevant area of professional library work. A minimum of one (1) year of experience must have been at a level equivalent to Librarian 1. Preferred: Experience teaching and working with health sciences faculty and students; significant experience with information technology applications. Schedule: 40 hours weekly; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday. Flexibility needed for occasional evenings or weekends. Full Time Equivalent minimum salary: $56,020.
