Library Dean - University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (ranked among the top northeastern public universities by U. S. News and World Report) seeks a dynamic and experienced leader as its next Dean of Library Services. Located in the picturesque south coast of Massachusetts-a short drive from Boston, Providence and Cape Cod-the university enrolls over 8,500 students in over 40 undergraduate and 23 graduate programs (including 4 at the PhD level). The University is in a period of growth and raised aspirations, marked by new dormitories, new programs, an infusion of new faculty, and a doubling of research spending since 2000. With a dedicated staff of 36 FTEs, nearly half a million books and a budget of $4 million, the Library has embarked on a $10 million renovation and expansion campaign that will revitalize the Library as the center for discourse, learning, and scholarship for the campus and region, and support the campus in fulfilling its mission. Responsibilities: Reports to the Vice Chancellor for Library Services, Information Resources and Technology and provides direct and general supervision to all Library staff and student employees, through the Library's organizational structure. Illustrative duties include: providing vision and leadership in the formulation and implementation of innovative services that meet students, faculty, staff, and community needs; fostering an organizational culture based upon respect, service, teamwork, personal and professional growth, and responsibility; collaboratively developing Library strategic plans to support and implement campus mission and vision; lead the Library building renovation and expansion campaign; providing leadership and coordinating Library public relations and fund raising activities; maintaining strong working relationships within LSIRT and with the other campus divisions; serving as a member of the Provost's academic council and other committees; and advocating for and representing UMass Dartmouth at local, state, and national library organizations. Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited institution or a terminal degree in a relevant field (Doctorate or second graduate degree preferred); and at least five years of progressively responsible higher education library administrative experience. Background and attributes include: evidence of substantial leadership and achievement in a higher education library; ability to articulate a well-founded vision for a 21st century university library; excellent interpersonal and communication / listening skills; strong analytic and strategic skills in prioritization, resource allocation, and decision-making; ability to collaboratively plan, manage, and develop staff, budget, and facilities resources to meet strategic objectives; evidence of continuing participation in professional activities; and demonstrated commitment to furthering the principles of equal opportunity, affirmative action and cultural diversity.
