City Librarian - Bridgeport, CT. The Board of Directors of the Bridgeport Public Library is seeking an experienced Administrator with energy, vision, passion and commitment to quality public library service. Experience with successful fund raising and building projects is highly desirable. The City Librarian is responsible for strategic planning, facilities planning, budget development, as well as program development and implementation. In addition to the main library facility there are 4 branches (one about to be bid for extensive renovations), a total staff of 92 (70.6 FTEs) and an annual operating budget of $3,612,351. The largest city in the state, Bridgeport is an urban environment rich in diversity, home to 140,000 residents speaking more than 60 different languages. Successful candidates must have excellent verbal and written skills, demonstrated leadership ability and the ability to work collaboratively with Board, staff and community groups. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to articulate a vision of library services in the 21st century. The candidate will have an MLS from an ALA accredited institution and at least 7 years of progressively responsible administrative experience in mainly medium and large public libraries.
