Serials Librarian - Central CT State University, New Britain

Serials Librarian - Central CT State University, Elihu Burritt Library. As a member of the Library's Acquisitions/Serials Department, the Serials Librarian is responsible for a variety of duties associated with the acquisition and management of the library's serials in all formats. The Serials Librarian supervises one full-time Library Technician and one part-time University Assistant. This position is a twelve-month tenure-track faculty position. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1. Oversees order/pay/receipt processing and renewal for serials, claiming activities. 2. Resolves complex serial related problems. 3. Acts as primary correspondent with all Serials Vendors. 4. Maintains integrity and accuracy of all online system check-in records including accurate holdings statements. 5. Acts as primary liaison with the Cataloging Department regarding additions, changes and deletions to the library's serial subscriptions and standing orders that require bibliographic attention. 6. Acts as primary liaison with the Digital Services Librarian regarding the additions, changes and deletions to the library's online journal subscriptions. Responsible for registering and activating online journal subscriptions. 7. Responsible for maintaining the Library's serial holdings in the Connecticut Union List of Serials. 8. Prepares all Serials reports as required by the Library Administration and the Head of the Acquisitions/Serials Department, and maintains accurate statistics for all serials holdings. 9. Coordinates regular reviews of the library's serials subscriptions and standing orders in order to ensure that they are in keeping with the library's collection development policy and continue to support teaching and research at the University. This includes acting as primary liaison with library selectors and with academic departments. 10. Oversees all Binding operations. 11. Participates in collection development in one or more subject areas and is liaison with one or more academic departments. 12. Other duties as assigned. Required qualifications: ALA-accredited master's degree in library science, minimum of two years professional technical services experience, experience with library online systems (preferably III), knowledge of serials vendors, knowledge of serial MARC records, familiarity with online journals, aggregators, and publishers/distributors of online journal content, flexibility in adapting to change, ability to take initiative, ability to follow through with assigned tasks and projects, minimum one year of supervisory experience, excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills. Preferred qualifications: Academic library experience, experience with library commercial binders, knowledge of current trends and developments in serials and serials management.
