Information Resources Assistant - XL America, Stamford

Information Resources Assistant - XL America, www.xlcapital.com, Stamford, Connecticut. This position is a integral member of a two person department meeting the research and electronic information needs of the reinsurance segment, as well as local XL America and XL Global Services Departments. This is support position that provides 50% independent administrative responsibilities and 50% research and information services. Job Responsibilities:



ADMINISTRATIVE/TECHNICAL

  • Sort Mail. Check-In and route periodicals.

  • Place all orders for print materials - including periodicals: resolve issues, order/cancel subscriptions

  • File materials in the Library, maintain Library catalog and Periodical database, maintain retention schedules

  • Demonstrate willingness and aptitude to learn how to use new electronic services and increase proficiency on current services.

  • Help maintain 6 department databases and help create new databases as needed.

  • Coordinate training on certain electronic resources at regular intervals during the year.

  • Handle ID administration for several electronic services

  • Assist end users with simple "how to" questions re: our applications



RESEARCH

  • Retrieve and post Analysts' Notes, press releases and the Insurance Daily News in the Industry Watch database each day

  • Develop proficiency on some electronic resources (such as LexisNexis, Internet searching, AM Best) and become familiar with the property casualty industry so you can perform research

  • Create and update bibliographies, proactively forward and post research items

  • Assist in developing, creating and maintaining the Information Resources Community on the Corporate portal



Hours of the position: 8:00 - 4:30 or 8:30 - 5:00. Job Requirements: College Degree and/or several years experience in the insurance industry or a Corporate or Legal Library. Candidate should:

Strong computer skills necessary. Demonstrate a high aptitude for reading comprehension. Previous online searching experience is a plus. Must be able to interact with internal clients at all levels of the organization, including employees from other companies within the XL Group. Must be able to effectively interact with vendors, industry contacts (associations, organizations) and external clients. Excellent communication skills required - both verbal and written.
